Kinky Friedman:
Imagine a wisecracking, cigar chewing, ass kicking ex lead singer of the outrageous country and western band, The Texas Jewboys, who evolves into a cat-loving sleuth. Then you can roughly conjure up an image of the Kinkstah, as he is affectionately known by legions of his fans. Kinky Friedman burst into the crime scene in 1986 with the outrageous Greenwich Killing Time. His books feature himself as the eponymous crime busting Gumshoe. The fun of it all is Kinky populates his books with people he knows, often featuring them as cheats, cons and murderers much to their glee. With his non stop one liners and irreverent wit, Kinky is a delight to read. The novels are lean and mean and the pace electric. Kinky Friedman was born Richard S.Friedman and was a child prodigy. He went on to form The Texas Jewboys (They aint making Jews like Jesus anymore) and made some good music. In 1986 he decided to hang the guitar up and take up the pen. He now lives on his family ranch in Texas, in a very ascetic trailer, with his pet armadillo Dilly, Mr Magoo, his small black dog and two cats. Kinky says there are ten million imaginary horses in this valley who gallop around the trailer in an ever encircling carousel of death. But one could hear the tap..tap.. of his typewriter amidst all the pounding of hooves. The music world's loss is the readers gain, Kinky has entertained his cult following without even once missing the target. His Tenth book is out, his eleventh soon to be out and his 12th already completed he astonishingly maintains his razor sharp wit. With a passion for Havana cigars a love for life, all we can wish for is for Kinky to live forever and ever, with a fully stocked up humidor and finely oiled typewriter. Famous now both across the Atlantic and over here.. If you havent read Kinky..you havent lived life to the fullest.

Terry Goodkind: Sword of Truth Series
Terry Goodkind's first novel, Wizard's First Rule (1994), established him immediately as a major voice on the epic fantasy scene. Subsequent books in the "Sword of Truth" series -- Stone of Tears, Blood of the Fold, and most recently Temple of the Winds -- have climbed steadily up the national bestseller lists. Goodkind's next novel in the Sword of Truth series will be Soul of the Fire, to be published by Tor in early 1999. His story in Legends, "Debt of Bones," offers fans the first new Goodkind work since 1997.

The saga of The Sword of Truth started growing in Goodkind's mind during the early 1990s, while he was building his house in the forests of the northeastern U.S. "It started with the character of Kahlan, and grew from that seed," he recalls. "It really became a haunting experience. As soon as I started writing Wizard's First Rule, I knew writing was my calling. I've found something to which I truly want to dedicate my life."

Goodkind was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, where he also attended art school, one of his many interests on the way to becoming a writer. Besides a career in wildlife art, he has been a cabinet maker, violin maker, and he has done restoration work on rare and exotic artifacts from around the world -- each with its own story to tell, he says. In 1983 Goodkind moved to the forested mountains he loves. There, in the woods near the ocean, he built the house where he and his wife, Jeri, live, and came at last to tell his own stories.

Dean R. Koontz:
Dean Koontz was born and raised in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Shippensburg State College (now Shippensburg University). He wrote nights and weekends, and went to work as an English teacher in a suburban school district outside Harrisburg. After he has been a year and a half in that position, his wife, Gerda, made him an offer he couldn't refuse: "I'll support you for five years," she said, "and if you can't make it as a writer in that time, you'll never make it." By the end of those five years, Gerda had quit her job to run the business end of her husband's writing career. Dean and Gerda Koontz live in southern California. As you can see, Koontz has been a very prolific writer. My absolute favorites are Watchers and his newest ones, Fear Nothing and Seize the Night. This is Koontz's first attempt at a sequel. I hope he keeps it going! These are some very intriguing characters he has created here...
